Open Letter: Recode the Curriculum — Make Tech Accessible, Creative and Inclusive from Day One
Dear Secretary of State,
We, the undersigned leaders in technology, write to express our shared belief that digital literacy and creative technology education must become a foundational part of the UK’s curriculum — starting in primary school.
Technology is no longer just a career path. It is the language of modern life. It shapes how we connect, create, work, and solve problems. Yet too many children — especially girls and underrepresented groups — are still introduced to technology in ways that feel abstract, intimidating, or unrelatable.
We believe the UK has a real opportunity to lead in inclusive digital education. By making tech fun, creative, and hands-on from the start, we can:
- Spark curiosity and confidence in every child
- Equip young people with future-ready digital skills
- Break down stereotypes that prevent girls from engaging
- Inspire the next generation of diverse tech leaders
- Future-proof the UK workforce and creative economy
We are calling for a refreshed approach to digital education in primary and secondary schools — one that introduces coding, robotics, gaming, 3D design, digital storytelling, and AI in ways that speak to young people’s creativity and everyday interests.
This is not just about teaching tools. It’s about unlocking imagination, identity, and ambition. We believe every child in the UK should be empowered to see technology as a space where they belong.
We welcome the chance to work together — across government, education, and industry — to make this vision a reality.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
